Nobody enjoys trials, but trials can become some of God's greatest instruments for spiritual growth. A tree develops stronger roots when it survives strong winds. .

 

“My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.”

A tree develops stronger roots when it survives strong winds. In the same way, our faith often becomes stronger when we learn to trust God during difficult seasons.

James tells us that the testing of our faith produces patience.

This means that trials are not necessarily evidence that God has abandoned us. Sometimes they are opportunities for our faith to mature.

The question is not only, “How can I get out of this trial?”

We should also ask, “What is God developing in me through this trial?”

Trials can develop patience.

They can develop perseverance.

They can expose weaknesses.

They can deepen our dependence on God.

They can teach us compassion for people experiencing similar situations.

A spiritually immature believer may allow difficulties to push them away from God. But spiritual maturity teaches us to run toward God in difficult seasons.

Jesus did not promise that we would never experience trouble. But He promised to be with us.

Sometimes the greatest evidence of spiritual growth is not how we behave when everything is going well, but how we respond when everything seems to be going wrong.

If you can maintain your faith when the answer has not come, maintain your character when you have been mistreated, and continue trusting God when you do not understand, you are growing.

Your trial may be painful, but God can use it to produce something powerful in you.

Prayer

Father, help me to grow through every difficult season. When I do not understand what You are doing, help me to trust who You are. Give me patience, endurance, and unwavering faith. Let every trial produce Christlike character in me. In Jesus' name, Amen.

My trials will not destroy me.
They are producing endurance in me.
I will not abandon my faith in difficult seasons.
God is working even when I cannot see it.
Every challenge is making me stronger in Christ.
