The calling of God and the life we are required has a standard . We must live up to it. .
I urge you, then—I who am a prisoner because I serve the Lord: live a life that measures up to the standard God set when he called you. (Eph 4:1, GNT)
I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, (Eph 4:1, KJV)
In business, there is something known as SOP - Standard Operating Procedures. This is where companies document what and how business processes are carried out. The reason for this is simple: to have a single source of truth for what is to be done and how it is to be done; and then to enable reproducibility i.e the ability for anyone to carry out the same function. Without this kind of detailed documentation, people are left with guesses and trials and errors. That is no way to sustain an enterprise.
Now, God has placed a calling upon us the moment we became born again. The King James Version calls it a "vocation" some sort of business! (See text above); and just like any great enterprise leader, God did develop an SOP for the calling over our lives.
We are not left to second-guess ourselves when it comes to what it means to be a son of God, or how to live the life of God. There are standards, and these standards are well documented in the Bible.
The Bible is our single source of truth. The Bible is God's documented SOP.
We can neither understand nor fulfill our calling without making full reference to the scriptures. Quite beyond the obvious, the Bible also provides us standards for daily living. In other words, the standards stated don't just center on special callings or ministry, it covers standards for our daily living activities.
Many people today are stuck in wondering what is right versus what is wrong? What should a Christian do versus what shouldn't a Christian do? But the answers are already provided in our SOP document - the Bible!
No wonder David said "I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you." (Psalms 119:11). Internalizing the SOP leaves little or no room for errors.
Let the words of Jesus ring in your ears all through today and the days ahead, "Search the scriptures, for in them ye have eternal life, and ... they testify of me" (John 5:39)
