God expects our faith to produce good works. We are not saved by good works, but we are saved for good works. .

 

“That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work.”
— Colossians 1:10 (KJV)

Ephesians 2:10 tells us that we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works.

This means that our Christianity should result in action.

It is not enough to know what is right. We must do what is right.

It is not enough to see someone in need and say, “I will pray for you,” when God has given us the ability to help.

It is not enough to speak about love without demonstrating love.

James tells us that faith without works is dead.

Good works are not attempts to purchase God's approval. They are evidence that His grace is working through us.

Every time we help someone, encourage someone, give generously, stand for what is right, solve a problem, serve faithfully, or demonstrate compassion, we are putting our faith into action.

The world does not only need Christians who can explain what they believe.

It needs Christians whose lives demonstrate what they believe.

Jesus said, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father.”

Notice that the goal is not for people to praise us.

The goal is for people to glorify God.

Our good works should point beyond us to the One who transformed us.

 

Reflection

• What good work is God asking me to do?
• Am I more willing to talk about problems than to help solve them?
• Does my faith produce practical action?

 

 

Prayer

Father, make me fruitful in every good work. Open my eyes to the needs around me and give me the willingness to respond. Let my faith become practical and visible. May everything I do point people back to You. In Jesus' name, Amen.

My faith produces good works.
I am available to serve.
I recognize opportunities to do good.
My actions reflect my faith.
People will see God's goodness through my life.
